    • Students will check in at 12:30pm and fill out paperwork and stretch themselves in studio 1 or studio 2. Parents should arrive with students in case students need help completing the paperwork. Auditions are closed to parents.
    • Students will learn 3 dances at the auditions: a Jazz dance, a Lyrical/Contemporary dance, and a Hip Hop dance.
    • Students will perform these dances in front of the judges in small groups.
    • We start auditioning the youngest students first. The younger students should be done around 5pm and the older students around 6pm. Although, there have been years this process takes longer due to the number of students auditioning.
    • Students should wear fitted clothing for our technical styles like lyrical, contemporary, and jazz.
    • We suggest students pack something for Hip Hop clothing wise to help them get into the mood of the style.  This can be a hat, baggy sweat shirt or something to tie around their waist.
    • Students should bring jazz shoes, half soles, and tennis shoes
    • Students should pack a meal or snacks to eat during the break.
    • We highly suggest students be trained in ballet, jazz, lyrical and contemporary for our performance teams. However there is some crossover in technique, style and performance between certain styles. We have seen students excel in contemporary even though they have only taken ballet and jazz. It's always worth a try. They could make a team. Or it will be great practice and a chance to learn how auditions work. We just suggest giving them this information up front. That way , if they aren't quite ready, they aren't surprised.
    • We suggest they audition anyway! We choose students depending on how they audition. We review if we have enough dancers that are around the same levels when creating the company performance teams.
    • Auditions can be scary, especially performing in front of judges. We do our best to make the auditions as fun as possible! We find that the biggest reason a student is nervous comes down to if they can remember the dance. Everyone makes mistakes. We know it's a lot to learn. But, it's not about being perfect, but doing the best they can. Auditions allow us to see if they have style, evaluate their performance quality, and the technique needed for the team.
    • Students need to take ballet, jazz, lyrical or contemporary, hip hop, and at least one other class like acro, tap, or turns and leaps. Although many company dancers take more than this as doubling up on styles and being versatile helps tremendously with progress and advancement.
    • Performance Company is an additional $50 per month (in addition to your monthly tuition).
    • Students will be purchasing costumes for their company dances once teams are selected and they start learning the dance. Students will also have a costume for the opener.
    • Students will purchase Performance Company gear. The final price for this is unknown as it depends on the quantity we buy. Our estimate is $120 for new company members.
    • Expect at least two performances to cost money to participate in this season. The amusement park can cost in the hundred dollar range per ticket and one parent does need to chaperone. This does allow access into the park though so you can enjoy the day with your child when your child isn't performing.
    • Performance Company practices are typically on Saturdays, but some Sundays could be possible. And are usually limited to every other week or once a month depending on the length of rehearsal. Also, students will have two additional rehearsals (to learn the opener and closer for the annual recital).
    • This year each team will learn one dance (maybe two depending on how long it takes to clean it.)
    • We will be using this fall/winter for a 'day of dance' including technique and a master class. We also plan to work on a project for film so dancers can practice performing for the camera (mainly working on emotion). In February or March, we will begin performing - potential 3 - 4 performances. Subject to change. Expect one performance to be a paid event. Current plan is the Encinitas Street Fair, San Diego County Fair, and some kind of amusement park.
